I love our monitor, it has a video screen so you can tell easily if it’s a cry you need to attend to or not. You can change the sensitivity so you don’t hear everything and you can mute it so you can tell the noise level has gone up just by seeing the screen light up. I was just thinking last night I don’t want to ever stop using it, I love to switch the screen on just to watch her sleep!

Hi @Heather, thanks for sharing! I love my monitor too. Unfortunately my one in my 4 year old’s room just broke… maybe I just need to let it go and give him some independence. Ha! I’ve been holding on for so long. 😉 Thanks for your comment and visiting the Baby Sleep Site!

Ha… I definitely would ditch the monitor in our situation. When my daughter was born (3.5 years ago), we had one and indeed it woke me up ALL the time for little noises. My husband slept through all her “little” noises. But I was exhausted.
We turned it less loud and then eventually off. Like mentioned, if the baby really cries, we heard her.

Now with my son (12 months next week), we never turned it on. We use it only if we are moving around the house during his nap time and when we can’t hear him right away. But I sleep so much better now!! Most of the time my husband hears my son before I do… ha ha… I love it. His turn with our son.

Funny enough, he still doesn’t hear our daughter. And she still doesn’t have to make a lot of noise for me to hear her. Even though my son is in a room closer to us, and he apparently makes a lot more noise than my daughter.

Anyway, if the monitor keeps you awake because you hear a lot of the little noises. I do recommend to try to turn the volume off. See how you like that?! It was beneficial to me.

@Monique – agree totally!! The monitor was never a good choice for me; every sound kept me awake. Glad you figured out what worked for you. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

@ Nadia – How great it is to hear that your baby sleeps so well! You are right… some homes are laid out in a manner that makes a monitor unnecessary, but it’s good to have it just in case, even if it is collecting dust in a spare room!
Thank you for reading and thanks for sharing!

@ The Kids Cave – It sounds like you are utilizing the monitor and doing what works for you!

I think the pros of baby monitors outweigh the cons. I have to agree about the every little noise thing though. The slightest chirp and we freeze and listen to see if he is awake. At the same time, we can sit downstairs and have quiet time and not worry too much.
