Hi @Lily –
Thank you for writing to us! I am sorry to hear about your 11 month old’s schedule issues, but please know that you are not alone! Going by her awake times is fine if that’s what works for you! Feel free to make this schedule your own, and adjust as needed for it to work well for you. : ) Just be careful when making changes, in that they are gradual changes, so that you can observe and adjust slowly to combat over/under tiredness. We’ve been trying different wake times and she would finally nap longer than an hour if we put her down at 10:15am (until 11:30) and 3pm (until 4/4:15pm). I feel like we can’t seem to get her bedtime right. We put her down between 7:45 and 7:55pm. The first night she did great and slept until 6:55am. Then she started waking up in the middle of the night crying. She is teething but I don’t think it would cause this. Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong? Is she over or under tired?

Her first nap is 2.5 hours and that works well. Her second nap we have tried 2.5 and 3 hours but it takes us having to go in to check the diaper, sometimes feed her, and then putting her back in and then she falls asleep at the 4 hour of wake time mark. Should we extend the wake time to 3.5 hours? I am worried she will become overtired and won’t fall asleep. We have also tried schedule but she does not seem to adjust so we go back to wake times. We are all over the place. Help!

Hi @Natalia – Thank you for writing to us! Sorry to hear that your baby is having trouble with her sleep right now! Regarding her pooping during naptimes, you can always feed some breakfast foods that might help produce a poop before her nap, such as plums, pears, etc. Many families try to feed these early in the morning so that baby hopefully poops before the naptime! It is also a common time for sleep trouble in general, developmental leaps can always cause sleep disruptions, and around the 12 month mark is a common trouble spot. Have you read this article about sleep regressions?:

I hope that things smooth out Natalia! Please do contact us if you ever need more help!

My 11 month old baby now is taking shorter naps, but the issues is that she always wait to do #2 when she naps and that is what makes her to wake up. Sometimes she does 30m naps or Max 1 hour. She was doing longer naps before one of two hours and the other one for one hour. She does sleep through the night but last night after one hour of sleeping she woke up crying bananas. We had to go check on her and put her back to sleep. Just as a note we always put her awake for both naps and bedtime and she puts herself to sleep. Are we experiencing a regression or mental development? She is now into standing and close to walking, could this be? Also do you suggest I feed her closer to her naps so we avoid the waking? Even though I don’t think she can digest so fast! Thanks

Hi @Molly – Thank you for writing to us! So sorry to hear about your 11 month old baby’s early rising! Early rising can be so tricky to figure out and to help with, so we understand! Managing different sleep at daycare is really tough too, since it’s out of your control! If they cannot change the nap conditions a little for your little one, resulting in better naps there, you can always offer bedtime extra early on those short nap days! This article can help too!:
https://www.babysleepsite.com/how-we-sleep/baby-waking-too-early/
Hopefully this helps him sleep a little longer in the morning. If you need any additional help at any time, one of our consultants would love to take an in-depth look at his schedule and create a plan with you to help! Please feel free to contact us for more info if you need more help!

Thank you for the informative site! My almost 11 month old is a chronic early riser. He is in daycare 4 days a week and those days he usually takes 2 naps, of only a half hour each. he is then totally wiped and is usually asleep by 6:30pm. He then wakes at 5:30am (sleeps soundly through the night). Once in a while he’ll resettle and fall back to sleep for another half hour or so, but it’s rare. On his days at home he usually does 2 naps of about an hour each, still goes down around 6:30, but will often sleep until at around 6am or a little later. He seems to sleep better on the days when he naps longer, but they say they have tried everything and he just wont nap for longer than a half hour. Any advice on how to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning? I’m starting to think he’s just an early riser but I would love any advice you have!

Hi @Amoom –
Thank you for writing to us! Sorry to hear that your 11 month old baby is taking only one short nap every day! As you likely read on this sample schedule page for 11 month olds, babies at this age typically take 2 naps. Feel free to make the schedule your own! Regarding the short naps, this article should be a very helpful place to start:

My son is 11months old, he sleeps well at night but he dose not sleep well during the day. He just go for one nap during the whole day, and his nap dose not exceed half an hour.
What can I do to help him to take longer naps? Is one nap enough for him? He wakes up at 7am and go to bed at 8pm, he usually wakes up during night for feeding or just for a hug.

Thank you and I appreciate your help.
