Hi @Natalia- Thank you for writing to us about your 5 month old! So sorry to hear that you’re struggling with her waking after one sleep cycle! Having it take an hour to get her to go back to sleep at times is a long time, and a bit exhausting I’m sure! I’m wondering if you might need some one on one help with her schedule to help with this tricky waking! We do offer free 15 minute telephone evaluations with an expert sleep consultant, which might be the perfect fit! This can really give you good insight regarding when to work on sleep, if you need one-on-one help, how we can help, and which package may be the best fit for you. If interested, please schedule your free 15 minute evaluation here:

The only consistent problem is that generally after being put for bedtime, she would wake up after one sleep cycle and cry (not the 2 minute kind of cry in between sleep cycle, but a long cry). Sometimes she doesn’t wake up and continues to sleep for the night, but more often than not, she wakes up either babbling and then crying if we don’t attend to her or just waking up crying. After this episode which usually takes up to an hour to put her back to sleep, she sleeps the whole night and when she wakes up in the middle of the night (we could hear her babbling away or rustling in her bed for a while) she could then put herself back to sleep with no dramas. It’s only the first sleep cycle of the bedtime where this keeps happening. We do have a bedtime routine we stick by, so she does know when bedtime is coming, so we’re not sending a message that it’s another short nap. What do you think is the problem?

Hi @Jenny, thanks for writing to us. Yes we have lots of families that sleep train when they are still room sharing with their baby. If you need help with that let us know and be sure to browse our site, we have lots of resources available for you there!

I would like to start sleep training. At the moment he wakes up 3 times to feed and needs to be rocked to sleep. He is still sleeping in his bed next to us. My question is, is ist possible to sleep train when the baby is sleeping next to his parents?? I just don’t feel ready to move him to his room yet. Thank you for your help
Jenny
